XR650L Oil Pump Spring Installation Instructions

These instructions will walk you through installing the oil pump spring.

Follow through the following sections of the manual to successfully remove the oil pump and replace the check valve:

1. Side Cover Removal (Section 7-1)

2. Clutch Basket Removal (Section 7-2 thru 7-6)

3. Primary Drive Gear Removal (Section 7-7)

4. Pump Removal (Section 4-3)

The oil pump removal is shown on section 4-3 of the XR650L factory Service Manual. ***Follow link above to download and view***

You are replacing the valve spring shown as item #15 in the oil pump diagram shown on page 4-4.

In order to remove the pump, you first remove the side cover and clutch basket (page 7-1)

Then remove the clutch basket (Page 7-2 thru 7-6)

Next, Remove the primary drive gear (page 7-7)

Now you can pull out the pump (page 4-3) and pull the cotter pin to replace the spring.
